On 26 January 2024, CARE International in Lao PDR met with Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Luang Namtha Provincial Agricultural and Forestry Office for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the Empowering Communities through Participatory Climate Actions (WeAct) in Luang Namtha Province, which will be implemented in Long District, Luang Namtha Province, funded by the Bread for the World.
The event was attended by Mr. Phimkeo Thamlasin, Provincial Party Committee, Head of Luang Namtha Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Department; Ms. Keoamphone Souvannaphoum, Country Director of CARE International in Lao PDR; Mr. Viengvilay Mounphosay, Deputy of Long District Agriculture and Forestry Office, and representatives from various governmental departments at the ministerial, provincial, and district levels, including other stakeholders.
The project will contribute to strengthened resilience and adaptive capacity of the most vulnerable communities to climate-related hazards in Lao PDR, enhance sustainable agricultural opportunities, based on transformative community-based adaptation, strengthen community participation and women’s financial empowerment, and develop an evidence-based and learning exchange at the community and national levels.
This is an exciting opportunity for us to support communities in learning and adapting to climate change alongside sustainable economic development.
