On May 26, 2023, CARE International in Lao PDR participated in the Menstrual Hygiene Day campaign at Tan Mixay Secondary School, Vientiane Capital. There were participants from three different schools, including Tanmixay, Donnoun, and Dongbang Secondary Schools. This event was initiated by GIZ Laos and the Promotion Family and Health Association to raise awareness about the challenges and knowledge associated with managing menstruation. In addition to this campaign, it aims to inculcate positive practice and knowledge in menstrual care, especially regarding the stigma and taboos that surround menstruation.
CARE also promotes sexual reproductive health and rights for young women, especially by providing knowledge and training to students and out-of-school youth in the target areas of the project to ensure that they receive accurate information and realize that menstruation is not something to be ashamed of and can be discussed openly.
